5th Grade Teacher
Hello, I am Ms. Machella Smith. Welcome to a marvelous school year. I am very excited about the upcoming year and look forward to getting to know both you and your scholar. My goal for each and every scholar is to have them develop to their fullest potential in a fun-loving, interesting, and stimulating learning environment. In working toward this goal, I feel that parent-teacher communication is vital. I plan on implementing this through telephone calls, texts, notes, letters home, emails, and conferences. I truly believe in a close home and school relationship.
It is my belief that building positive relationships with scholars and the school community is vital to a successful learning experience. I believe in excellent classroom management, have an undeniable passion for teaching, and possess extensive curriculum and leadership training, which I bring to my teaching. I am familiar with what it takes to create a safe, fun, differentiated, and positive learning environment for scholars, where they can gain efficiency in learning.
I am a 2005 graduate of UW-Milwaukee with a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Working in education for 20 + years, I have taught grades 1 through 8 in various subjects. Also, I was a librarian for a year and, during this crazy pandemic period, I was a resource teacher for grades 2 through 8.
I am committed to the values and the mission of putting scholars first, combined with integrity, equity, collaboration, accountability, and fun. I believe whole-heartedly that, starting with a positive classroom community, scholars will develop personal responsibility and respect for one another and the environment around them. I am a lifelong advocate of maximizing the talents and contributions of our youth by developing their leadership potential through education and learning.
I am here to serve you and your family as a learning partner over the course of this year and beyond. I am looking forward to a great year of growth and success with each one of you.
