Hello! My name is Ms. Yolanda West. I am the K5 homeroom teacher for Catholic East.
I’ve been a teacher for 19 years. After receiving my Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Early Childhood Education, I began my teaching career in Norfolk, VA, where I taught kindergarten and first grade.
I moved back to Wisconsin and began teaching in the urban, public-school setting, teaching primarily kindergarten. I worked in a private, corporate childcare center where I cared for children from birth to age five. I have experience as a substitute teacher in private, parochial, charter and choice schools.
I’ve had the opportunity to work with diverse staff and student populations in a variety of settings. Kindergarten is my professional preference. I love the excitement young children have and the “light bulb” moments.
My teaching style is firm, but fair. Our primary objective is to learn, but I also think students, especially in the early years, need to have fun. I believe in working hard, then playing hard.
On a personal note, I’m the mother of one. My son Travis is a high school sophomore. He’s an honor student who plays football and baseball. I enjoy spending time with my son, watching him play sports and watching sports with him. Going to Brewers games is one of our favorites!
If you have questions, please reach out. I look forward to meeting you all. I’m excited to be a part of Catholic East!
