Hello! My name is Mr. Tony Gonzalez and I am proud to serve as your principal for the upcoming school year! I consider myself to be a servant leader who believes it takes a village to raise our scholars. I live my life by the Golden Rule, “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” (Matthew 7:12). I come to Catholic East with 12 years of urban education experience at Milwaukee College Prep where I spent six years as an administrator, six years as a second grade teacher, and 11 years coaching middle school basketball.
While teaching second grade at Milwaukee College Prep (MCP), I focused on building a joyful, loving, and safe community by implementing proactivity lessons, celebrating student successes, and setting high behavior and academic expectations. During my tenure at MCP, I was a part of an administrative team that was recognized as a National School of Character. In addition, MCP received multiple five-star ratings from the Department of Public Instruction on the Wisconsin school report card.
Education has played a pivotal role in my life. My Catholic roots began as a student at Blessed Sacrament. I graduated from Marquette University High School and went on to Marquette University, where I received a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and social studies. I have my Master’s degree in administrative leadership, principal’s license, and director of instruction license from Alverno College.
I take my role as a leader seriously. I believe that we have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our scholars, who are the future of our city. For that, I was recognized by Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, in his "It’s Aaron" campaign, http://itsaaron.com/tony. I am also a proud recipient of the 2015 Young Alumnus of the Year recognition from Marquette University’s School of Education.
As an administrator, leader, and Catholic, I focus on building relationships with students, parents, teachers, and community members to help them incorporate education and spirituality in their daily lives. I strive to positively influence all colleagues to help them achieve their personal and professional goals.
God has truly blessed me with this opportunity. I am extremely proud to be the principal at Catholic East. My vision for Catholic East is to create a space where all students feel safe with who they are as learners and are able to build their academic, spiritual, and character growth. My vision for the school community is for members to work together to set and achieve high expectations. Catholic East will be a safe place where all members are working together to hold each other accountable by having critical conversation grounded in what is best for our scholars. At Catholic East we will live the mission of “We Pray! We Serve! We Learn!”
Please know that my door is always open. Feel free to call, email, or schedule a meeting to discuss any suggestions or ideas to help make this year the best year yet!
Mr. Tony Gonzalez
