Happy Holidays!

This past week just flew by!

In math, we finished a unit and were tested on it.  Learning to tell time using numbers and words can be a bit of a challenge! All of the scholars gave their best. The "before the new hour" language is new and will take a few of us more time to adjust to the language.

We read a letter from a student to Mrs. Pope Osborne who wanted to persuade her to study a particular country based on cultural practices being so interesting.  We dissected the letter into main parts, and then discussed the main ideas, taking notes.

In social studies we were introduced to the initial steps of how to take notes from nonfiction using bullet points.  This is a foreign idea to scholars who have been told for the last few years to make sure they have complete ideas in thier sentences, and to add details!  We will continue to take steps in being able to take notes using bullet points.  Eventually, we will be able to take bullet point notes and then use these notes to write a short paper reflecting our research.  We briefly researched Cesar Chavez, Ruby Bridges, and two other amazing people who understand the role of a steward to serve their community.  We talked about stewards of all ages begin able to see and meet the needs around us as followers of Christ.

Today we celebrated  an all school mass.  After the mass, we celebrated our Saints of the Month.  This month focused on joy.  It was a very hard decision for me to make, for many of our scholars bring such joy to our room each day.  In the end, we celebrated a beautiful young lady named Amani! Afterwards our class remained to celebrate the holidays with our buddies! Your scholars decorated cookies and did some crafts before reurning for lunch.

May your Christmas break be filled with God's joy, grace and love as you spend time with those dear to you!
